Bilingual education: English-Finnish

The English School adheres to the Finnish National Curriculum, with a notable emphasis on extensive English-language instruction. Our English program significantly surpasses the national standards. For native Finnish speakers, we offer a robust curriculum in their mother tongue, while students whose native language is English or another language have the option to study Finnish as a Second Language.

Depending on the subject, instruction is delivered in either English or Finnish. As students progress to higher grades, a greater portion of their education is conducted in Finnish to prepare them for high school studies in Finland.

Our language offerings include compulsory Swedish for Finnish citizens, as well as optional French and German (A2 and B2 syllabuses).

The integration of information and communication technology (ICT) is a fundamental aspect of our teaching and learning processes, from preschool through high school. Additionally, students have opportunities to pursue their interests in music, art, drama, and ICT through elective courses.

At The English School, we cultivate an independent and responsible attitude toward learning. In grades 7-9, students deepen their comprehension, knowledge, and skills in various subjects. While mastering subject content is crucial, developing effective study skills is equally important. Emphasis on strong work ethics, good manners, and citizenship skills equips students with a solid foundation for future studies and life.

Through projects, events, and international exchanges, students gain exposure to real-world work environments, practice active participation and influence, and build networks beyond school.

Traditions play a significant role at The English School, reflected in our annual events and celebrations. Students actively participate in planning, organizing, and performing, fostering a sense of community and unity across all age groups.
