The English School High School
Located at Valimotie 17-19, Pitäjänmäki, Helsinki
Bilingual program
Instruction is delivered in both English and Finnish, enabling our students to graduate from high school
with genuine fluency in both languages. Given that the Finnish matriculation examinations are conducted
exclusively in Finnish, it is advantageous for students to receive most of their instruction in Finnish.
The advanced study units that prepare students for these exams are taught in Finnish to ensure they
acquire the necessary terminology. For students whose official native language is neither Finnish nor
Swedish, we offer an excellent Finnish as a Second Language program.
International examinations
Beyond the Finnish matriculation examination, students can take preparatory courses in mathematics and
English to sit for the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT), which paves the way for the SAT.
Solid academic level
Our dedicated teachers maintain a high academic standard, with most of our students advancing to
prestigious universities in Finland and internationally. We also provide personalized assistance for
those seeking education abroad after high school.
Pedagogic continuity
The pedagogical continuity in most subjects allows teachers to recognize and nurture each student’s
unique talents. With a small student body, we pride ourselves on fostering close interactions between
teachers and students.
Flexibility in course requirements
Students have the flexibility to focus on subjects that interest them most, with the exception of
mandatory Finnish and English courses. Guidance counselors support all students in developing personal
study plans and long-term strategies for their future education. The counselor, group advisor, and
subject teachers are committed to aiding each student’s academic progress.
Good guidance
Our music program offers a significantly higher number of courses than required by the Finnish
curriculum. In visual arts, we provide an additional applied course. Exceptionally gifted and dedicated
students have the opportunity to complete the Music Diploma and the Visual Arts Diploma.
Art and music diplomas

curriculum. In the visual arts, we also offer an additional applied course. Furthermore, students that
are particularly gifted and dedicated may also complete the Music Diploma, as well as the Visual Arts
